Club Honours 2022
Lindfield FC is privileged to have such a wonderful number and variety of people who volunteer their time to make it all happen. Where possible, we love to tell their stories and thank them, but it is only the exceptional shining stars who make it to this Annual Club Honour Awards page, so please make sure you take the time to acknowledge the volunteers who make your football possible!
The Gilbert Merlo Chalice
The Gilbert Merlo Chalice is awarded to honour the memory of our past President who championed ladies football at LFC and the NSFA. The Chalice is awarded annually to celebrate outstanding achievement in girls/ladies football. This could be an individual female player or a female team. ‘Outstanding achievement’ is not necessarily about winning, but rather about commitment and passion for women’s football at Lindfield FC.
Clive Solari, who stepped in as president upon Gil’s passing recalls, “The idea of the Chalice first came to me when I was in the church for Gil’s funeral. Much of Gil’s eulogy was about his amazing achievements for LFC and I remember thinking that the club must celebrate this great guy. So I set myself the challenge of designing the Chalice. A rewarding yet emotional process.”
Each year we email all our members and ask them for nominations for a player or team.

Club Honours 2022
2022 another tricky year….testing our patience and resilience with all the wet weather, washed out rounds, lack of training and cold miserable conditions!!!
But we didn’t let that defeat us and keep us off the pitch. Teams found other ways to train and bond, resulting in some outstanding results once again.
LFC had 6 teams make it through to the Champion of Champions rounds.

MATCH REPORT
Lindfield FC 2 (Angelina Ly 5’, 54’) vs Harrington United FC 1 (Rachel Butler 13’)
Lindfield FC has emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Harrington United thanks to a brace from
Angelina Ly. Lindfield opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a good attacking move.
Some positive combination play down the left flank between Alyssia Mow and Ellie Burgess down the
left flank saw the former play a dangerous cross into the box. After a bounce and minor fumble,
Angelina Ly was on the spot to convert to give Lindfield their first goal.
Harrington recovered well and won a penalty through good play by Charlie Fulko. Rachel Butler stepped
up to take the penalty and converted clinically to even the scores in the 13th minute. Lindfield’s
goalkeeper Jessica Lum impressed in the first half with her distribution under pressure, while
Lilja Le Moenic showed her quality through her dribbling and close control in midfield.
Alyssia Mow went close for Lindfield after a good passing move involving Angelina Ly and Ellie Burgess
found the winger with space inside the box, who saw her shot saved well by Ripeka Robbins. A minute
later, down the other end, Charlize Fulko found space in behind after a clever pass from Rachel Butler
but could not convert against Lindfield goalkeeper Jessica Lum.
In the 53rd minute, Emily Baird tried a cheeky chip off a bouncing ball in the box, but only found the roof of the net. Moments later, another bouncing ball caused trouble for the Harrington defence, and Angelina Ly capitalised to put Lindfield ahead with a well-taken left-footed volley with six minutes remaining.
The goal proved to be enough for Lindfield, as they emerged victorious in the Under 14 Girls Champions of Champions tournament.
